Institute of Sociology of the CAS, v. v. i.

Institute of Sociology of the CAS, v. v. i. was established in 1965, closed down in 1970 and subsequently reopened in 1990. As of January 1, 2007, the Institute became a public research institution within the meaning of Act No. 341/2005 Coll. Its research goals include the sociological analysis of long-term social processes in Czech society in the context of European integration policies, the development of knowledge society, human, social and cultural capital. The Institute develops sociological theories and methodology of contemporary sociological research. It carries out one-off and recurring empirical surveys, comparative research, case studies, polls and public opinion surveys. It employs modern quantitative and qualitative research methods, as well as findings, approaches and methods from related scientific disciplines, in particular economics, political sciences, law, demography, social geography and gender studies. The following research departments of the Institute of Sociology carry out research: Public Opinion Research Centre, Czech Border Regions, Economic Sociology, Gender & Sociology, Value Orientations in Society, Local and Regional Studies, Czech Social Science Data Archive, Political Sociology, Sociology of Education and Stratification, Social Structure Studies.
