Institute of Contemporary History of the CAS, v. v. i.

The Institute was established as part of the CSAS as of February 1, 1990. The impulse for its foundation originated at a meeting between representatives of the Presidium of the CSAS and the Historical Commission of the Coordination Center of the Civic Forum. As of January 1, 2007, the Institute became a public research institution within the meaning of Act No. 341/2005 Coll.

The Institute’s main task is to carry out basic research, conceived as interdisciplinary, of social processes comprising Czechoslovak (Czech and Slovak) history from 1938 till the present in the international context.
