Institute of Psychology of the CAS, v. v. i.

The Institute of Psychology of the CAS, with a branch in Brno, was established as of April 1, 1967, by a transformation of the joint department of the Institute of Psychology of Charles University and the Comenius Pedagogical Institute of the CSAS, with a focus on general and social psychology, and the department of pedagogical psychology of the Comenius Pedagogical Institute of the CSAS. The headquarters of the institute have been located in Brno since 1993. As of January 1, 2007, the Institute became a public research institution within the meaning of Act No. 341/2005 Coll.

The institute pursues research in the following areas: personality psychology and social psychology (structure of personality, its stability across time and situations, risk and protective factors in the formation and development of personality, life-long human development, organization of personal experience – identity, self-perception, spirituality, coherence), cognitive psychology (more complex forms of perception consciousness, thinking, speech development, physiological manifestations – electro-dermal activity, eye movement), psychology of health (stress and its management, quality of life, psychosocial and socioeconomic determinants of health, optimum development, resilience), methodology (development of qualitative and quantitative perspective, narrative approach, psychosemantics, adaptive testing, diagnostic applications).
