Institute of Economics of the CAS, v. v. i.

The Institute was established as of August 15, 1992. Following the closure of the Economic Institute of the CSAS and the Prognostic Institute of the CSAS, the Institute of Economics of the CAS is the only institution within the Czech Academy of Sciences that focuses on economic issues. As of January 1, 2007, the Institute became a public research institution within the meaning of Act No. 341/2005 Coll.

The Institute carries out theoretical and empirical research in microeconomics and macroeconomics, econometrics, finance, money and banking, organizational theory, labor economics, international trade and finance, development economics, urban and regional economics, environmental economics, health care economics, and economic transformation in Central and Eastern Europe. The Institute takes part in the design of government economic programmes, cooperates with domestic and foreign institutions on the solution of joint research projects, and provides scientific training and retraining of practicing economists.

Joint workplace:
The Institute pursues its tasks in close cooperation with the Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education of Charles University (CERGE) through a joint workplace, CERGE-EI. Together with CERGE, the Institute provides education in a graduate economics programme which is fully accredited both in the Czech Republic and the USA.
