The main catalogue contains photographic documentation from the foundation of the Institute of Ethnography and Folklore Studies (predecessor of the current Institute of Ethnology) in 1954 to the present day. Photographs (positive prints – mainly 13 × 18 cm, and negatives – mainly 6 × 6 cm) from research conducted by the IE (or IEFS) and research activities of individual researchers are added to the catalogue continuously. The entire body of photographs is very diverse in terms of subject matter, and comprises materials documenting a broad range of manifestations of folk culture.
