Database of compositions Clavis nigra

The Clavis nigra (Black Key) database captures polyphonic music from sources of the Czech lands, recorded mostly by means of black mensural notation. Work on the database relied on a manuscript – a catalogue of polyphonic music penned by a leading musicologist, doc. PhDr. Jaromír Černý, CSc. Compositions can be searched for by parts of title or melodic code. For each entry found, the textual incipit of the composition, location within the source (signature, folio), type (motet, song, number of voices) and melodic code are displayed. The entries are accompanied by scans of Jaromír Černý’s catalogue cards.
