Catalogue of old prints of the Institute of Ethnology of the CAS

The database contains a collection of old prints from the beginning of the 16th century to the first half of the 19th century. In terms of topic, the collection focuses primarily on book production in the areas of ethnology, material and spiritual culture, and musical and verbal folklore.

The Old Prints database draws on the domestic tradition of traditional cataloguing rules applicable to hand-printed books, while respecting current international trends. For the purpose of name cataloguing, binding Guidelines for the Name Cataloguing of Manuscripts and Old Prints and Guidelines for the Description of 19th Century Broadside Ballad Sheets were adopted. The entry in the MARC 21 bibliographic format contains the name of the work, graphic and typographic information, print size and format, prints additional or attached to the main print. Indexes form an integral part of the database: of authors, geographic, chronological, iconographic, subject, and, depending on provenance, also an index of printers, publishers and booksellers.
